Frequently asked questions

Deciding whether to embark on acupuncture treatment can be daunting.

Here are a few frequently asked questions and answers...

Does acupuncture hurt?

This is the most commonly asked question, unsurprisingly !

Acupuncture needles are very fine, at 0.18mm. With some needles, you may feel a slight scratch on insertion and other times you may feel nothing.

Annie supports you with a focus on the breath, to support you to relax.

What conditions do you treat?

Acupuncture is a truly holistic approach to health.

A Chinese Medicine practitioner doesn't treat conditions, symptoms or labels... it treats the individual,  systemically.

If you have a complicated history, the best thing to do is email and we can organise a phone call to discuss whether acupuncture would be suitable for your needs.

Where will the needles be placed?

Acupuncture meridians run all over the body, from the head to the tip of the toes. In five element acupuncture it is common to place needles all over the body, to support the overall balancing of the meridians. Sometimes acupuncture needles are inserted for a second or two, or may be left to rest for a while before the needles are removed.

How many sessions should I have?

This, again, will vary on each individual case. That being said, it is advisable to have 6 weekly sessions and move to fortnightly and monthly appointments. If you just want to try one session to see if you like acupuncture, Annie does offer an introductory session for 1 hour - please email to enquire
