Acupuncture

Fine 0.18mm gauge needles are inserted into acupuncture points which are on channel networks around the body.

Annie will work with your breath when inserting the needles to enable a more relaxed and painless treatment.

Acupuncture has been shown to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system, resulting in a sense of calm and relaxation.

Auricular acupuncture

Ear acupuncture works with points on the outer ear, using fine needles or ear seeds.

Auricular acupuncture — ear acupuncture — works with acupuncture points on the outer ear.

Fine needles are placed in points on the ear and left to rest during your treatment.

Ear seeding uses tiny seeds held on ear points with a small adhesive patch. The seeds can stay in place after your session and be pressed gently at home, so the points continue to be stimulated between treatments.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion is an essential part of Chinese medicine which takes its name from moxa, prepared from mugwort leaves.

Moxa can be held just above the skin, placed on top of an acupuncture needle or directly on the skin, over specific acupuncture points or meridians.

The herb is then lit and as it slowly smoulders, heat permeates the skin and affects the flow of 'qi' (energy) and blood in the area being treated.

Cupping

Cupping is the placement of small suction cups on the surface of the skin.

Research suggests that cupping on the body can reduce pain. In addition it is anti-inflammatory and promotes increased blood circulation. It also helps to modulate the immune system.

Cupping leaves temporary marking on the skin. Patients report tension release and relaxation after cupping.

Electro acupuncture

Electro acupuncture passes electrical currents between acupuncture needles.

It is commonly used for musculoskeletal issues and can be very effective at treating pain.

Studies suggest that electro acupuncture works by activating sympathetic nerve fibres and increasing levels of opioids at inflammatory sites.

Treatment feels like a light tapping on the acupuncture point.
